In the Scandinavian style
Scandinavian design – the most important features
It cannot be denied that among interior design styles this one has been reigning for several decades and there is no indication that it would give way to others. Universal, yet characteristic; comfortable but not devoid of designer style; simple, yet eye-catching – Scandinavian design.
Each of us has some associations with the Scandinavian design, every house has some Scandinavian style furniture, we all love Scandinavia and we all are under the spell of the scandinavian charm. Let’s start with organizing our thoughts and knowledge. If only to distinguish real, high quality arrangements from mediocre ones, dominated by cheap and low-quality furniture and accessories that can be used for only a year or two. And in the end this is not the point, because the first and most important feature of Scandinavian design arrangements is their high quality. What’s next?
First of all, colors: bright and those that occur in nature: gray, white, beige, earthy colors. Bright colors make interiors, even the smallest ones seem optically larger, more spacious. Remember to choose the right furniture for small rooms in the Scandinavian design – ladder bookcases, small sideboards will make the arrangement lighter.
We can emphasize natural colors with natural materials. Linen bedspread, cotton pillowcases, thick plaids … Remember that blankets and pillows are obligatory accessories for the arrangement in the Scandinavian style. To diversify the bright color palette in the room, think about pillowcases and blankets in more vivid colors (turquoise, green, blue) and with geometric patterns. The material that must definitely be found in such space is also wood! Light wood makes the room cozier and warmer. Be sure to choose wooden Scandinavian furniture for the living room and other rooms! Wooden floor panels are also good choice.
Living room in the Scandinavian style
A Scandinavian-style living room should, above all, be ergonomic and comfortable. Functional Scandinavian style furniture and designer accessories will make this room, for many, the center of an apartment or house, full of harmony and style.
When choosing Scandinavian furniture for the living room, start with the sideboard. Depending on the size of the room, choose three- or two-box furniture. Scandinavian sideboard can be in a fully built-in version or with open cabinets. Furniture models with open cabinets make the sideboard optically lighter. This solution is especially suitable for smaller interiors.
When planning a Scandinavian style living room, you can’t miss the coffee table and armchairs. Play a bit with variaties of Scandinavian style and combine e.g. vintage armchairs with minimalist tables. The effect will certainly impress both your family and guests.
Scandinavian style bedroom
The bed is the most important element of the bedroom. If you dream about a Scandinavian style bedroom, go for comfort and minimalism. Some people choose just the mattress. It does not matter, however, whether you opt for this or the standard version of the place to sleep – be sure to remember about blanket and pillowcases made of natural materials.
A bedroom is not only a room where you sleep, but also a place of many evening rituals: undressing, reading for a good night’s sleep, browsing through emails … But where to put the clothes, a case for your glasses, books and laptop? A sideboard and a Scandinavian style bookcase are a must have for every bedroom. Since a bed should be the most important element of a bedroom in this style, choose small, light, but solid furniture. In the Scandinavian-style sideboard with a cabinet and drawers, you can fit both clothes and everyday trinkets or documents. Place the books and newspapers you want to read before bedtime, on a bookcase that will not take up too much space, and at the same time will be a designer, eye-catching accessory. If your bedroom is quite large and you plan to fit more sideboards and bookcases in it – think about modular furniture that you can combine to create coherent arrangements in the Scandinavian style.
Scandinavian style office
Here you need to focus on work the most, here you will make important decisions, fight for customers, sign many contracts. A Scandinavian style office is a room where you cannot get distracted by the arrangement. So go for strict minimalism. However, do not confuse it with boring decor and discomfort. The basic task of good arrangement is to fulfill the function of the room. When arranging the office, do not clutter it with accessories, choose pieces of furniture in the Scandinavian style, which will delight with interesting design and functionalism.
To start with – a desk. Choose the one that will allow you to organize documents and office equipment. Ergonomic shape and the ability to personalize the furniture is a recipe for successful workplace. A mandatory element of the office is a Scandinavian bookcase. If you have a lot of documents – go for larger models or ones that you can combine with each other to form walls of shelves – symmetrical, asymmetrical, with built-in elements or not. If you’re rather messy (trying to control your chaos, of course) – Scandinavian sideboards will be better for you.
Contrary to popular belief, a man who is constantly concentrated on his work and tense is not as efficient and productive as a man who takes an occasional break to relax. A moment of relax will allow you to look at the task at hand from a distance. So last but not least – a comfortable armchair. In it you’ll only make the right decisions.
